Job Description

The Director of Education and Institutional Effectiveness provides the learning performance and related administrative leadership for HSRA. DEIE is responsible for guiding, and evaluating the learning performance and related administrative responsibilities in setting and achieving the highest standards of excellence in learning and operating systems; providing learning leadership by devising learning goals related to contracts and responsibilities as a public learning institution, administering, and leading the assessment of student learning proficiency and evaluating our learning programming performance as it relates our innovative, multiple strategy learning initiative such as project based learning, instructional, curriculum development, digital and school programs that meet or exceed state standards; managing and reporting on educational compliance with regulatory and funding agencies at the local, state and federal levels.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop organizational goals and objectives consistent with the mission and values of HSRA.
Work with the executive director and education programming director(s) to constantly assess, analyze and improve student achievement results.
Support the Executive Director in establishing academic/learning goals for HSRA that may be reflected in contract goals with the authorizer.
Create process, collect, analyze and periodically report on academic/learning goal data

Design, Implement and Lead school’s student performance assessment program through state mandated and other assessment instruments that provide well rounded data proficiency for all students.
design baseline/orientation student performance assessments protocol. Additionally, design and implement a protocol and culture of interim assessments (low pressure and learner centered)

Support facilitators of learning in developing an educational culture aligned with the mission, values and goals of HSRA.

Foster a school climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff and parents.
Provide leadership in ensuring that the learning goals of the school are being met through regular conversations and meetings with the director/assistant director of education programming
Participate in the education department hiring process and personnel decisions.
Coordinate staff development and staff committee work with director/assistant director of education programming.
Establish goals, evaluate and support a team of facilitators of learning.
Foster a culture of professionalism among facilitators.
Work with facilitators to improve their project facilitation/teaching/advising practice through coaching, professional development, modeling, and collaborative planning.
Coordinate various state and federal initiatives such as Title I, Title II, and ESSEA
Coordinate all learning programs including those that take place outside of the regular school day and outside of the regular school year.
Work with studio director to develop interdisciplinary learning goals and to ensure effective project and instructional supervision and practices
Ensure that project based, classroom instruction, independent and alternative learning environments (such as online learning) maximizes student learning and post secondary educational and/or career preparedness.
Support and mentor all facilitators.
Provide high quality project and curricular training and resources to staff.
Assist advisors in making decisions about students’ personal learning plans.
Work with lead advisor and instructional leader to coordinate staff professional development plans and certified learning staff job reviews.
Assess students’ progress toward graduation and verify status of graduates.
Convert incoming student transcripts to HSRA model.
Work with advisors to ensure that students’ educational needs are being met.
Communicate regularly with lead advisor, instructional leader, assistant/director of education programing and executive director to make necessary changes and assess program progress.


Assist Executive Director in developing all project and instructional programs, services, and activities to ensure that program objectives are met.
Keep abreast of successful project and instructional methodologies and practices.
Ensure use of effective, research-based project facilitation and teaching methodologies and practices.
Lead data-driven discussions about student performance with leadership team and staff
Co-Create course catalogs, and calendars with other directors.
Ensure consistencies in project facilitation, instruction and practice amongst team of facilitators.
Assist students and staff in creating portfolios.
Guide school goals in areas of academic improvement and participate in School Improvement Committee.
Coach advisors in assessment, project-based learning, and the validations program.
Convert incoming student transcripts to HSRA model.
Coordinate standardized testing and gather baseline testing data for all incoming students
Assist Program Director in managing student recruitment and enrollment process.

.Ensure compliance with local, state and federal funding sources where appropriate.
Participate in budget decisions.
Participate in grant writing, and grant activities and reporting
Work with Designs for Learning on ESEA application and assist in reporting.
Attend authorizer meetings and learning related meetings with Minnesota Department of Education departments on behalf of school.

Assume the school leadership role when the Executive Director and Operations Director are not physically present (see absent school leadership protocol).

Perform whatever task that needs to be done

Qualifications

Experience
Prior experience with Charter Schools, alternative schools, arts/technical and/or small schools development and programming
Management experience in a non-profit organization desired
Prior experience as a school leader
Experience with project based/multidisciplinary methodology and practice
Experience in curriculum and Instruction
Experience working with off-track youth
Strong Human Relations and written communication skills
Knowledge of the effective operation of organizations and methods of resolving organizational conflicts
Skill in communication of policy and programs
Skill in working with a diverse student population, staff and school community
Has a belief that all students can achieve

Education:
Masters Degree desired
Degree in curriculum development , Education and or teaching
Teaching license or licensure in curriculum development required
